The workshop responses 10.11.21 15 people attended We discussed all the issues and then agreed to do some follow up work to gather more information and evidence and examples to support our points. Generally people felt things have stayed the same since 2017, with not much improvement. Then Covid-19 highlighted (all at once) just how little the Government and some sections of society regarded the needs and rights of disabled people. People with learning disabilities felt scared, isolated, cut off and forgotten about. In some ways things had got worse for people. Since Covid-19 they felt scared, isolated and not valued, 1 especially as we heard more and more cases of people being given Do No

Present Andrew Joanne Ray Firielle Chris Eve Don Phil Jenny Charles Kweku Sarah Sam Geraldine Olcay 2. Introductions Joanne and Jenny welcomed everyone to the meeting and asked how they were feeling. We welcomed Don OCallaghan from the USA. Firielle told us about her dental treatment and meetings with her self-advocacy group. 1 Chris shared some information about some treatment he’s having on his feet and the Channel 4 documentary on Heidi’s court case. Charles said he has written to the BBC to talk about his experiences as someone with autism. They are calling for people’s stories. Kweku shared an update about the hosting of Waltham Forest People First. Eve said she’s feeling better and preparing for some important meetings. She also said that she found out that she had a Do Not Resuscitate (DNR)

Introductions Andrew welcomed everyone to the meeting and asked everyone how they were feeling. Andrew spoke about the People First newsletter and the sessions with self advocates in Nepal. 1 Jenny spoke about the new work Together All Are Able are starting with Wirral Evolutions and the Speak Up Be Heard meeting. Ray talked about his health issues and the group asked about what support he was getting or could get. Chris talked about some of the campaigns and debates he’s involved in, including Heidi’s court case. He is also being interviewed by Channel 4 and they will use his artwork. Dear all On Wednesday 10th November 12:30 – 2:30 we are running a workshop on the UNCRPD Shadow reporting process. We will be asking the following questions. Here are the questions: 1. Whether things have got better or worse or stayed the same since the last examination in 2017 2. How far the Committee’s recommendations in 2017 and 2016 have been implemented 3. Whether any new issues have emerged since 2017 4. Which issues have had the biggest impacts on the most numbers of Deaf and Disabled people in England / have the most significant implications for the rights of Deaf and Disabled people in England Please find other information attached.
